The SMT8-L piggy-back system also follows in the footsteps of the SMT6 and SMT7 products, just like its big brother the SMT8, but with un-paralleled performance and a quantum leap in technical innovation. This is all possible with the latest 16 bit DSP processors. The SMT8-L is the first piggy-back that offers you the capability to do DUAL AFR tuning, as well as ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) tuning.

The SMT8-L has two complete maps. Which means you can switch between two different tuned maps while driving. It is possible to have one map for economy, the other for performance. Or use the maps for different weather conditions. The Maps can be switched from the hardware input. The parameters and calibration are not switched. The maps can be 'locked' into a fixed position from the PC for tuning and downloading.

The SMT8-L piggyback is applicable to:

Tuning, Auto tuning, Dyno tuning, Auto tuning, Chip Tuning, Tuning cars, Performance tuning, Chip Performance, Engine performance, Auto performance, Computer Tuning, Piggyback tuning, Vehicle tuning, Computer ECU, Fuel consumption, Increasing Horsepower, Eco tuning, Fuel Injection, Turbo charger, Engine tuning and many more.

The SMT8-L can drive one extra injector (13 ohm) for supplementing fuel at high boost. The extra injector can be controlled via Throttle/RPM, AMP, Engine and Air temperature maps. This allows for precise fuel delivery at boost conditions. This feature is very popular with turbo and supercharger installations.

The SMT8-L is the first Perfect Power piggy-back product to allow ETC modifications. The ETC flap control can be modified (re-mapped) with the SMT8-L. It takes some skill to negate the effect of the ECU traction or launch control, but if you want to spin tyres then this is the way to go!

The SMT8-L product is currently available in two kits: the SMT8-L User Kit and the SMT8-L Kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do the values of the SMT8-L's ignition map actually mean on the engines timing?

The SMT8-L doesn't know what the engines timing is but it can advance or retard it. Positive values in the ignition map will advance the timing and negative values will retard the timing.  Any value used will be added or subtracted from the base ignition timing. Zero entry will be the stock or base timing.

When I use the Smt8L to control the boost on my turbo car the engine light keeps coming on and the error code is about the N75 valve how do I fix this?

The ECU was controlling the N75 valve but now you have cut the wire to the N75 valve so the Smt8L can control it directly. What you need to do is wire a 1 kilo ohm quarter watt resistor onto the ECU wire and onto switched 12 volts. The reason that this needs to be done is because the ECU is monitoring the return 12 volts from the N75 when it is not in use.

Am I able to modify the ETC signal with an SMT8L piggy-back?

Yes you are able to modify the ETC signal. There are a few types of signals that the Smt8L can modify, refer to the manual on how to set it up for your type of ETC

What is ETC?

ETC means “Electronic throttle control” otherwise known as drive by wire. The throttle doesn’t have a cable attached to the pedal. When you push the pedal the computer opens the throttle.
