IGNITION

The XMS has 4 ignition outputs with positive going signals. The outputs require an “INVERTING IGNITION AMPLIFIER” to drive the coils.
Perfect Power has an ignition amplifier called the “BLUE-FIRE” which can drive the coils. It can drive 2 channels, and each channel can drive up to 20 Amps.

The XMS output is a wasted spark configuration. Two outputs are active for a 4 cylinder engine, 3 outputs for a 6 cylinder, and 4 outputs for an 8 cylinder engine.
One BLUE-FIRE output can drive 2 coils.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • Ignition output voltage: 0-5 volts
  • Ignition output current: 0.010A
  • Output combination: Yes, to drive a single coil

Restrictions: When combining outputs (shorting them together) care must be taken that the dwell duration does not overlap.

USING THE XMS WINDOWS TUNING SOFTWARE

In the XMS Tuning Software, the following information will be applicable to the ignition map (Ign Map):

TRIGGER:
The RPM is triggered via CB1. A “cylinder identification” is required, which can be a CB2 input, or a gap in the missing tooth wheel.
The cylinder after the identification is cylinder #1 (ign#1 output). Check the "CB2 Enabled" box and enter the relevant details in the "Process" field.

MISSING TOOTH ENABLE: Y = Cylinder ID from gap
                                             N = Cylinder ID from CB2

LOW LEVEL: Y = Magnetic input signal
                       N = Logic input signal

POSITIVE EDGE: Check this box if the Trigger is on positive edge

IGNITION REFERENCE: The position of the gap (CB2) in degrees.

MAX RETARD LIMIT: The point of max. retarding in degrees.

MAX ADVANCE LIMIT: The point of max. advance in degrees.

MAPPING:

  • RPM / Throttle map:    The entry in the main map is in degrees. This is the ignition point.
  • AMP map:     The entry is in degrees and added (or subtracted) to the main map entry.
  • Air temperature map:     The entry is in degrees and added (or subtracted) to the main map entry.

IGNITION CALCULATION

IGNITION OUTPUT = (RPM/Throttle map) + AMP map entry + Air Temp. map entry + Optional SOFT RETARD
