Introduction

The SMT8 has 3 Set-Points which are very useful in the engine or passenger bay. This application note describes the methods of using the SMT8's set-points. Setpoints perform a vital function in the engine environment. The setpoint function works with drive outputs, which can be activated from 14 different signal sources. This is for the implementation of, for example, fan control, gearshift lights, idle assistance and all other small jobs around the engine and passenger bay. All functions can be combined in a logical fashion, and full polarity (higher than/lower than) selection is possible. Furthermore, the setpoint procedure can be used to switch between the TWO operating maps A/B. The setpoint outputs are SHARED with the injection outputs. Purpose

The SMT8 has three outputs which can be used for various engine functions : extra injection, boost control, switch lights to name a few.

There are 13 functions which the setpoint outputs can be linked with "and/or" logic. The other 3 functions, injection 1, injection2 and boost are simply assigned to a function and the tuning maps for these functions will apply. For example if injection 2 is selected on wire 7-10 then the following diagram would apply and the second injection map would be used for tuning.

SMT8 Setpoint Activation

To activate a shift light using pin 8/10 at high rpm before the rev limit the setpoint screen would look like the image below. The limit is set to 6500 and the high/low limit is set to high, this means that when the RPM goes higher than 6500 the output on pin 8/10 will be activated. The output is a negative switch.

To activate a shift light using pin 8/10 with engine temp and throttle position the setpoint screen would look like the images below. The limit is set to 060 and the High/Low Limit is set to high, this means that when the engine temperature goes higher than 60 degrees the first half of the setpoint will be activated. The function AND/OR is set to "AND" and it is linked to Throttle Percent. This means that only when both the throttle percent and the engine temperature limits are exceeded will the output pin 8/10 be activated.

 

Note : The linked setpoint can have a "Low" or "High" limit.

To activate a shift light using pin 8/10 with engine temp or throttle position the setpoint screen would look like the image below. The limit is set to 060 and the High/Low Limit is set to high. The function AND/OR is set to "OR" and is it linked to Throttle Percent. This means that when either the throttle percent or the engine temperature limits are exceeded the output pin 8/10 will be activated.

 

Note : The linked setpoint can have a "Low" or "High" Limit.

Note : If the setpoint you are wanting to use is assigned to a function you are not using you must first disable the function so that it can be assigned to your desired function.
