Introduction

This note describes how to wire up batch sequential injection for 4/6/8 cylinders and how to set up the unit.

Wiring

All XMS4's have the same number of ignition outputs as injection outputs. The following table shows the AVAILABLE amount of ignition and injector drivers for each available unit :

Batch sequential injection assumes an injector per cylinder, where two injectors wired to one output! This means that :

 

XMS4A-4A Can be used for 2/4/6/8 cylinder batch sequential injection
XMS4B-4A Can be used for 2/4/6/8 cylinder batch sequential injection
XMS4B-8A Can be used for 2/4/6/8/12 cylinder batch sequential injection
XMS4C-4A Can be used for 2/4/6/8 cylinder batch sequential injection
XMS4C-8A Can be used for 2/4/6/8/12 cylinder batch sequential injection

Low Resistance Injectors 2-4 Ohm

They normally have a high flow rate. They require a "stepped" current to reduce the power dissipation when used in parallel, or as a single injector. The XMS cannot provide a "stepped" current, but can activate a 2-OHM injector with the use of an external driver. If this is required, then check the injector temperature after prolonged use.

High Resistance Injections 12-16 Ohm

These are the most common injectors. They have low to normal flow-rate and open in approximately 1.5 milliseconds. The XMS4 can drive these injectors directly.

Setup

The XMS4 range will default to batch sequential with the 60-2, 36-1, 36-2, 24+2 and the 1 pulse per fire trigger patterns if the cam input is not activated. With the selected trigger pattern and the amount of cylinders entered the XMS4 will activate half the amount of outputs as cylinders entered, odd number cylinders can only be wired in the sequential mode.

 

Conclusion

The XMS4 systems are suitable for batch sequential injection as indicated. Batch sequential injection is the most economical system, and most popular.
