FUEL TUNING / PLUG AND PLAY INJECTORS

Perfect Power Articles.

It refers to affecting the fuel supply to an engine. Two methods are available:

PRE-ECU FUEL TUNING

Some INPUT signal to the ECU is changed with a piggyback unit such as the SMT8, SMT8L or SMT8T. Then the stock ECU re-acts to these changes and changes the fuel supply. Sounds simple, and is performed daily. There is one drawback: engineering! You need to know which wire to cut and which wire to tap into. The units are relatively cheap. The SMT8, SMT8L and SMT8T can perform these tasks.

POST ECU

This method intercepts the injector harness and changes the injector drive signal without affecting the ECU. This is a more expensive way, but it is plug_and_play, DIY installation. If you have replaced the stock injectors, and lets say they flow 30% more fuel, then you have to tell the unit to reduce the fuel by 30% and you are back to where you have started

The SMT8_FT Fuel Tuner unit can perform the post-ECU tuning. It can map the injector signal. It receives the RPM from the injector activation, and if you wire TPS or AMP to it (Tee-in) then you can tune the fuel in a three-dimensional map.

How is it done? The unit plugs into the male and female injector connectors. Thus the ECU output drive signal is intercepted and measured in the SMT8_FT Fuel Tuner. It then applies the mapping; let’s say –30%, and outputs an injector drive pulse, which is 30% shorter than the ECU pulse. Of course, it can ADD or SUBTRACT fuel as specified in the map.

The SMT8_FT Fuel Tuner is more is DIY and installed in minutes. If you can touch the injector connectors in the engine bay, then you can install the SMT8_FT Fuel Tuner.
