INSTALLING LETRIPP II SOFTWARE ON YOUR PC

GETTING STARTED

  • Insert the CD that is supplied with the product kit, into the CD Rom drive of your PC/Laptop.
  • An automatic Auto start will appear.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen.
  • There are two fundamental steps to successfully install the software.  These steps must be followed in the correct order indicated below.

WARNING: Install the software (Step 1) and the USB drivers (Step 2) BEFORE plugging in the unit in to the USB port on the computer!

NOTE: If the LetRipp II unit does not have a USB port and only has an RS232 cable instead, then the installation of the USB drivers will not be required.

STEP 1 - SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

  • Install the LetRipp II software application and follow the default prompts on the screen.
  • If prompted, answer YES to all the questions and if prompted, install from disk.

DOTNET FRAMEWORK

  • The DotNet Framework software is only needed once.
  • If you have had to re-format your hard drive, or if you have a new computer, you will need to install the DotNet Framework.
  • If you have never installed any of our Perfect Power products’ software before, (particularly the more recent products such as XMS, XMS-L and SMT7), you MUST install the Dot Net Framework software first.
  • To install the DotNet Framework software, please click on the “DotNet Framework” button on the main screen of the CD Auto start.
  • If you have installed the DotNet Framework previously, Windows will inform you of this.  In this case, you will not need to install the DotNet Framework software again.

STEP 2 - INSTALLING THE USB DRIVERS (FOR LETRIPP II PRODUCTS WITH USB PORT)

Click on the button to install the USB Drivers and follow the prompts on the screen.
For some reason, should you need to install the USB drivers manually, and then run C:\LetRipp II MapFiles\USB Drivers\DPInst.exe.

Once you have followed the steps above, you have completed installing the LetRipp II application with the required USB drivers.

PLUGGING IN THE LETRIPP II UNIT TO THE USB PORT FOR THE FIRST TIME

  • Connect both ends of the USB cable between the LetRipp II unit and PC.
  • Windows should now prompt you that a new device has been found, and should open its “Found new Hardware Wizard”.
  • DO NOT search on the internet to find a suitable set of drivers and DO NOT select the first two options with “Yes” on the Wizard.
  • Select the option “No, not at this time” and click on “Next”.
  • On the next screen, select “Install the software automatically (Recommended)”.

Refer to the two screen shots below:

  • On the next screen a dialog box will appear called “Hardware Installation”.
  • Select the button “Continue Anyway”, as indicated in the screen shot below:
  • If prompted, restart the computer to make the drivers effective.

CONFIRMING CORRECT USB DRIVER & SOFTWARE INSTALLATION

Once you start the LetRipp II software application for your LetRipp II product, and you are connected to the unit and computer via the USB cable, you’ll see an orange bar at the bottom right hand corner that is moving from side to side.

The status bar at the bottom of the screen should tell you “USB Comms – ONLINE” and “Polling Active”.

LetRipp II Windows Tuning Software - Communication Working

This confirms that the communication is working.  If the USB cable is unplugged while “ONLINE”, a moving navy blue bar will indicate that the unit has lost communication.  Simply plug the USB cable back in, and the communication should be restored.

TIP: It is a good idea to always use the same physical USB port on the computer when talking to the LetRipp II product. Using other USB ports will only add an annoyance factor as it will possibly reinstall the USB drivers again for every different USB port used.

NO COMMUNICATION OF INCORRECT USB INSTALLATION

ATTEMPTING COMMUNICATION

If you have started the LetRipp II software application and connected the LetRipp II product to your computer via the USB cable and you do not get an orange bar at the bottom right hand corner, there is a problem with the connection.

When there is a problem with the connection or there is no communication between the unit and the PC, you will also see the messages “Attempting a Connection” and “USB Comms – Off Line”.

If this is the case, try plugging the USB cable into another USB port on the PC, as sometimes the USB port you are using, may not be working.
Should all the USB ports not work, then you will need to reinstall the USB drivers.

LOST COMMUNICATION

If a BLUE bar appears, moving slowly from one side, then you had communication at one time but has now lost the communication.  This state of communication indicates a “disconnection” and only requires you to plug-in the USB cable again.

REINSTALLING THE USB DRIVERS (AFTER NO COMMUNICATION)

  • To reinstall the USB drivers, you will need to remove the old ones first.
  • Leave the USB cable plugged into the unit and PC.
  • In Windows, click on “Start” then select “Control Panel”.  Double click on “System”.
  • On the “System” screen, select the “Hardware” tab at the top of the screen.
  • Click on the “Device Manager” button.
  • On the “Device Manager” list, expand “Universal Serial Bus controllers” (this is usually at the bottom of the list).
  • Select “USB Serial Converter”.
  • Right click on “USB Serial Converter” and select “Uninstall” from the menu.
  • Follow the prompts on the screen.
  • Next, unplug the USB cable from the unit or the PC and restart the PC.
  • Wait until the PC has fully restarted and then plug in the USB cable again.
  • Windows should now prompt you that a new device has been found, and should open its “Found new Hardware Wizard”.
  • Follow the procedure “Plugging in the LetRipp II Unit into the USB Port for the First
  • Time” above. REMEMBER: Do not search on the internet to find a suitable set of drivers and do not select the first two options with “Yes” on the Wizard. Select the option “No, not at this time” and click on “Next”.
  • On the next screen, select “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)”, then click on “Next >”.
  • On the following screen, enable “Include this location in the search” by ticking the box.

You need to select this driver folder. It can be found under your hard drive or “Local Disk”, C:\LetRipp II MapFiles\USB Drivers.
Click on the “OK” button and then click on “Next >” on the previous screen.  Both screens are depicted above.

The drivers should now install correctly and once finished, your PC should indicate that a new device is ready to be used.

If the USB drivers are correctly installed and you are using a working USB port, you will also notice that one of the Green or Red LED lights on the unit will shine or switch ON.
